On Contrasting Placement, I was able to take part in two Computing lessons where the children created their own programs using the 'Scratch' coding software. The children then assessed and 'de-bugged' their programs to improve them.
The head of 'Club Code Pro', Sophie Deen, has said about coding:
“At primary level, it helps children to be articulate and think logically: when they start breaking down what’s happening, they can start predicting what’s going to happen. It’s about looking around you almost like an engineer at how things are constructed.”
By allowing children to think about giving clear instructions, and creating sequences involving repetition, coding has been credited with assisting learning in both literacy and numeracy.
